  • Sound“Road to Carnegie”: Sacred offering at Izumo Taisha, Kitajima Kokusokan

As part of “Road to Carnegie,” a joint project with otomizu Inc., Amoa Japan will perform a sacred offering at Kitajima Kokusokan, Izumo Taisha.

Following the sacred offering at Yahiko Shrine, we will bring a “resonance of prayer,” made of voice and crystal bowls, from the land of Izumo. Connecting the culture and memories of sound across Japan, we will continue sharing this work in Japan and abroad, with future performances overseas in view.

After the performance on October 8, this article will be updated into a report, with the program, performers, photos and a record of the day.

  • Sound“Road to Carnegie”: Sacred offering at Yahiko Shrine

As part of “Road to Carnegie,” a joint project with otomizu Inc., Amoa Japan performed a sacred offering at Yahiko Shrine in Niigata Prefecture.

This project brings the resonance of voice and crystal bowls to the special setting of a shrine, sharing Japan’s prayers and musical culture with the world. As its first step, we gave a performance in which different forms of expression came together in one place, while facing the history of the land.

This sacred offering leads to the one planned for October 2026 at Kitajima Kokusokan, Izumo Taisha.

  • ResearchA joint event exploring the relationship between sound and the body

Together with ZONE, Amoa Japan held an event exploring the acoustics of crystal bowls and bodily sensation.

Along with a sound experience using crystal bowls tuned to pure intonation, participants tried a simple EEG device, and together we observed the changes in sensation that arise from listening to sound.

This event does not claim any medical effect. It is an experiential exploration of the relationships between the structure of sound, resonance and bodily sensation. At Amoa Japan, we treat the crystal bowl not simply as a tool for healing, but as a material for thinking about musical expression and bodily sensation.

  • SoundA performance connecting sound and material culture at Tokyo Jewelry FES 2023

At TJ STAGE during Tokyo Jewelry FES 23 Summer, Amoa Japan gave a “Nature sound Concert” using crystal bowls (July 7–9, 2023).

We performed with nature sound / healing artist KENJI AZUMA, adding a new experience of sound to an exhibition hall full of jewelry and materials.

The crystal bowl is an instrument made from materials such as minerals and crystal, and each one has its own tone. Rather than treating jewelry and music as separate fields, Amoa Japan creates points of contact between performance and exhibition spaces, as a way of conveying the character of materials through the senses.

  • EducationTraining performers and learning about sound to support sacred offerings

To pass the culture of sacred offerings with crystal bowls on to the next generation, Amoa Japan works on training performers and building places to perform (announced July 29, 2022; ongoing).

A sacred offering asks for more than technique: an understanding of the history and meaning of the place, and an attitude of offering sound in harmony with other performers and instruments.

In the training program, along with learning the tone, pitch and overtones of crystal bowls, we also explore building harmonies by combining several bowls, how to use the body while playing, and ensembles with other instruments.

Amoa Japan does not see a sacred offering as the expression of a single performer, but as a chance for several performers to bring their own sounds and create one place together.

In the sacred offerings in Izumo since 2022, and in “Road to Carnegie,” launched in 2026, we layer different forms of expression, such as voice and crystal bowls, in an effort to carry Japan’s prayers and musical culture into the future.

  • CultureMAMMA MIA IZUMO opening event “108 Fragments of Light”

As the opening event for MAMMA MIA IZUMO, Amoa Japan held “108 Fragments of Light” at the former Taisha Station.

While listening to a crystal bowl performance, Kei Yasaka painted a single artwork live, and the work was then shared as 108 “fragments of light.” Layering music, live art and the culture of Izumo, the event invited participants to share the same time and place.

This event shows that Amoa Japan has worked not only on music, but also on connecting art, the local community and the memory of a place.

  • MusicMusic: “Siesta,” “Twilight” and “Central Park”

Behind Amoa Japan’s musical expression are an exploration of sound with crystal bowls and the making of music as works.

On February 21, 2019, we released the single “Twilight” and the 1st album “Central Park,” which includes the single “Siesta.” Using the tones of crystal bowls as material, these works record the scenery and atmosphere of travel and cities as music.

These works are the origin of Amoa Japan’s creative activities, leading to today’s sacred offerings, live art and exploration of sound.
